Best Buy

Best Buy uses a line flow system. All the products are completed and moved through the facility in a set order. The type of customer order Best Buy processes is made to stock. This helps Best Buy provide faster service to customers from available stock and lower costs than a “make to order process.” Best Buy would fall into the make to stock line flow underneath the process characteristics matrix. The major factors that influence the way Best Buy chooses their process selection are market conditions, customer needs, labor, raw materials, and technology. Best Buy should definitely consider adopting economies of scope. Customers will come in to buy a phone, computer, iPod, and ask “Do you carry it in different colors? “ The answer is most likely no. If Best Buy could customize things such as a phone or be like Dell and give the customer the ability to customize their own products they would be even more successful.
